This uber contemporary hotel has been designed with the intention of creating a centre of comfort and tranquillity.

The architect has combined stone, wood and neutral colours to create a space that flows and feels warm, despite its appearance.

The rooms have huge windows offering panoramic views. All rooms include the latest technology from flat screen satellite TVs, to WiFi, underfloor heating and air-conditioning.

The hotel has a spa with three thermal pools, Turkish bath and a team of professionals on hand to provide treatments.

3. 3Rooms Hotel

The famous Corso Como 10 opened this intimate hotel in 2003, offering just three modern suites.

The suites have been stylishly decorated with influence from 20th mid-20th century designers and architects from around the world.

These comfortable apartment like rooms offer a home away from home and all have full amenities and private entrances. Features include, bathrooms with yoga mat and gym weights, air-conditioning, satellite TV and DVD player, CD player, free WiFi, computer, minibar and hair dryer.

Associated with the hotel and part of the surrounding building is a roof garden which is features contemporary sculptures and ceramics by Kris Ruhs, a cafe within a lush green courtyard as well as a restaurant and bar.

4. Ariston Hotel

This centrally located hotel was the first ecological hotel in Italy, designed according to bio-architectural criteria.

The hotel was completely renovated in 2005 and boasts modern and inviting spaces that are done in a minimalist style. It has kept the same respect for the environment. Water is purified and breakfast features an organic selection.

The hotel has 52 comfortable, simply decorated rooms which all have air-conditioning, satellite TV, WiFi access, hair dryer and minibar. Some of their larger 'Comfort' rooms include a Jacuzzi with city views.

The hotel is actually a large 1920s villa, converted and restored in 2012. The hotel exclusively uses eco-friendly materials and technologies.

All rooms come with free wi-fi, TV with HDMI port and certified zero-emission air conditioning. Bathrooms feature showers with colour therapy and biodegradable bath and shower products, and all rooms have a balcony with some having a terrace.

A breakfast buffet is available, with all food being zero-mile, 100% natural food. Homemade pastries and cakes feature, as do free range eggs and farm produce.
