1. Mio Bar, Milan - Centre

Located in the historic centre of Milan, in front of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, this is one of Milan’s hottest and trendiest bars in the city at any time of the day.

They serve traditional Milanese breakfast every day from 07:00 to 11:00 with great quality coffee, cappuccino, juices and croissants. They also offer an all-day menu created by Michelin starred chef Andrea Aprea with a selection of traditional Italian dishes, giving way also to the great classics of cuisines inspired from all over the world.

But you should definitely try their famous Club Sandwich. In 2008, Monocle Magazine named it the best in the world and from that moment on, it has become the gourmet dish must for fans around the world. Each season, Chef Aprea also prepares his signature dish, proposing new and exciting versions, from vegetarian to a barbecue, a must for all fans.

This bar is also a paradise for aperitivo aficionados. Indulge in this modern aperitivo experience in the heart of Milan with its perfect formula; a masterful blend of world famous cocktails created by their mixologists paired up with a selection of unique samplings created by chef Andrea Aprea arranged for guests along the breathtaking Carrara marble bar to show off the spectacular display of food at its finest.

From 18:30 to 22:30 and after dinner cocktails, their mixologists await you, ready to prepare your favourite cocktail or offer something new and exciting like one of its twelve original variants of the Bloody Mary, just to wet your lips.

2. Nottingham Forest Bar, Milan - Centre

This small quirky cocktail bar has a "fusion" feel combining local furniture with Eastern, African and Caribbean styles to create a global feel.

Their 'Barchef', Dario Comini, creates contemporary mixes and imaginative combinations. It is one of the top venues for cocktail drinking in Milan. It was renovated in 2009 and was recently nominated one of the top 50 bars in the world.

Open from Tuesday to Sunday from 18:30 to 02:00. Due to it being small, there might be a queue.

La Chiesetta Bar, Northwest Milan interior

3. La Chiesetta Bar, Northwest Milan

This unconsecrated small church was built at the end of the 18th century and, in 2006, it was converted into a bar. With a unique atmosphere, this bar is specialised in beers, cocktails and shots.

Its unique interior gives a Gothic feel, illuminated with votive candles and decorated with frescoes and sculpted capitals.

They have a long list of shots ('chupitos'), most of them named according to the religious theme. So you can try their famous 'PapaNero' (Black Pope) - made with 'liquore alla liquirizia (a black liquor from Calabria) with vodka & sambuca -, 'Sangue di Giuda' (Judas Blood) - fragola, white rum & lemon -, or the 'FratEllo' (Friar) - mint vodka & lemon. They also serve their miraculous 'Sangría del Priore'

Open Monday to Friday from 18:00 to 02:00 and Saturday from 21:00 to 02:00.

4. Mom Cafe Bar

A casual, all-welcoming cafe offering a lively, homely ambience, tasteful rock tunes and hearty fare. Although this cafe is brimming with customers at happy hour, tables are quick to vacate in good weather as locals spill out to the adjoining park.

Apart from a great atmosphere and good classic rock & roll and jazz tunes, this cafe offers good value cocktails for 'aperitivo' together with a selection of nibbles, as well as snacks and sandwiches.

Open Monday to Saturday from 18:00 to 00:45.

5. Terrazza Aperol Bar, Historic Centre of Milan

Overlooking the cathedral, this first-floor terrace is a great place for a relaxed aperitivo enjoying one of Milan's most typical drinks, an Aperol spritz.

Here you can also enjoy lunch and evenings with friends. They have a regular calendar of events with live music for aperitivo time. Enjoy a cocktail and some gourmet tapas in the early evening or try their lunch menu: international and local cuisine in a spectacular room overlooking one of the most beautiful squares in Italy.

Open only from May to September, every day from 11:00 to 23:00 (Saturday until midnight).

6. Bhangrabar Bar

This Indian bar offers a great selection of cocktails, many based on Indian spirits, serves a good aperitivo buffet and has African-themed evenings, as well as DJ sets late into the evening.

Decorated with colourful mural paintings and original Indian furniture, this cosy bar is great for aperitivo. For only €11 you'll get a drink (even a fancy cocktail) and a large selection of nibbles - including sweets!

They also serve brunch every Sunday from 12:00 to 15:00 with a huge buffet. We recommend you book as it is very popular (you need to book before 17:00).

Aperitivo from 18:00 to 22:00. Bar service until 02:00.

Le Biciclette Bar & Restaurant, Milan - Centre interior

7. Le Biciclette Bar & Restaurant, Milan - Centre

Located in south-central Milan, this former cycle shop is a funky art bar decorated with old bicycles and is a great place to enjoy an aperitivo, a tasty dinner or start your evening.

This bar and restaurant offers quirky design, contemporary music and creative cuisine. At theis large, warm dining room you can enjoy imaginative Italian food including lots of local specialities, gourmet burgers and salads. They also have a wide range of cocktails.

The bar is open every day from 18:00 to 02:00. The restaurant kitchen is open from 19:00 until midnight, except Saturday from 19:00-01:00. Happy hour is every day between 18:00 and 21:00.

Straf Bar & Restaurant, Milan - Centre interior

8. Straf Bar, Milan - Centre

This upmarket bar offers cocktails and a light lunch menu to a typically well-dressed crowd, fatigued after shopping the Galleria. The bar is part of the arty-industrial Straf 'design' hotel.

The menu selection includes simple pastas, salads and fish dishes with an innovative combination of ingredients. Lunch menu served Monday to Friday from 12:30 to 14:30.

At the bar, they offer a wide range of cocktails and, of course, aperitivo.

Cuore Bar, Southwest Milan interior

9. Cuore Bar, Southwest Milan

Meaning "heart", this vibrant, friendly, atmospheric spot is worth seeking out down a side street for its changing interior, DJ sets and mixed clientele.

In their quirky interior, they serve a range of cocktails and aperitivo. They also offer free WiFi.

Open every day from 18:00 to 03:00.

Dolce & Gabbana Martini Bar & Restaurant, Milan - Centre interior

10. Dolce & Gabbana Martini Bar & Restaurant, Milan - Centre

This trendy bar and restaurant combines two of the most traditional yet innovative Italian brands: Dolce & Gabbana and Martini. This is a unique place where you can have lunch, aperitivo or dinner inspired by Sicilian cuisine.

Located at the Dolce & Gabbana boutique in Corso Venezia, this intimate space is dominated by its refined design based on a "total black look": light and glossy black surfaces are only broken by a red dragon rising from the floor. There is also a patio and indoor garden dining room where you can enjoy food and drink.

Their signature cocktails include imaginative creations like their Dolce & Gabbana Martini, a combination of vodka, orange, strawberries and Martini dry. Enjoy it with their delicious aperitivo.

The bar is open Monday to Saturday from 09:30 to 01:00 (kitchen open until midnight), and Sundays from 09:00 to midnight (kitchen open until 23:00).

Basso Bar, Milan - Centre interior

11. Basso Bar, Milan - Centre

This historical Milan club is known for its cocktails, notably its 'Eat and Drink' ('Mangia e Bevi') cocktail, and claims to have invented the Negroni Sbagliato, made not with gin, but with spumante!

With a charming interior that reflects its mid-20th-century origins, this bar also claims to have introduced the concept of 'aperitivo' to the public.

Since 1947 they have been serving cocktails, and today their list includes more than 500 drinks, from classics like Bloody Mary, Manhattan and Martini, to newly invented ones such as the celebrated 'Mangia e Bevi' (based on hazeltut ice-cream).

Open 09:00 to 01:15, closed on Tuesday.
