Swan Lake Ballet at La Scala, Milan - Centre

The most famous ballet at La Scala

featured in Events Calendar Updated

In July, for eight performances, the stage of La Scala will be hosting the most beloved ballet of all time: the Swan Lake, Tchaikovsky's masterpiece.

This is the production by Alexei Ratmansky, presented for the first time by the Corps de Ballet of La Scala in June 2016. It is restored to how it was intended by Petipa and Ivanov in 1895 at the Mariinsky, while Tchaikovsky’s score is entrusted to Michail Jurowski.

Alastair Macaulay wrote in the New York Times: “Ratmansky’s new production … shows us how far other ‘Lakes’ have sunk…This Lake has become the benchmark by which to judge all the others.” From a careful study of the Stepanov notations, but also from other documents of the time, Ratmansky retraces the footsteps of Petipa and Ivanov with a respectful, sensitive and lively approach.

Tickets on sale from 5 May 2017.
