Musical Advent Calendar at Piazza Duomo, Milan - Centre

Live music every evening until Christmas Eve

featured in Events calendar Updated

From 1st to December 24th, onlookers in Piazza Duomo will experience a unique experience: the Milanese musical Advent calendar. Just like the windows of a classic Advent calendar that open one by one in the days before Christmas, every afternoon at 18:00 the windows of the palazzo of the southern portico of Piazza Duomo (on the right side as you look at the facade of the Duomo) will open up with music.

Looking over the balustrades, the musicians and singers from the Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana and Associazione SONG Onlus will play Christmas tunes and traditional Austrian songs. In a continuous crescendo, on December 1st a single musician will be playing and December 24th all 24 musicians will join together in a joyous orchestra to celebrate the eve before Christmas.

Inspired by the tradition of ‘Turmblasen’ (the fanfare played by steeples and towers to celebrate special occasions) the notes of traditional pre-Christmas melodies will fall from above. The event is offered by the National Austrian Tourist Board in collaboration with the Municipality of Milan.
